What is a Dermatology Physician Assistant?
Our certified physician assistants (PA-C) are medical providers formally trained and graduated from an accredited academic training program in the United States. They have over 4 years of health-care experience and a college degree before entering the PA program. Because of their close working relationship with physicians, they are educated in the medical model designed to mirror physician training. After graduation, they took a national certification examination developed by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants in conjunction with the National Board of Medical Examiners. They maintain their national certification by taking 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and are recertified every six years.
Our physician assistants received additional extensive dermatology training under the direct supervision of Dr. Jennings and receive daily direct supervision to further their skills. They continue their education with attendance at American Academy of Dermatology, Society of Dermatologic Physician Assistants, and other dermatology based conferences, tumor boards, dermatology grand rounds, home journals and computer programs. They are very skilled in independently evaluating and treating patients for acne, dermatitis, skin tags, warts, moles, skin cancer, cryotherapy, lesion biopsies and excision, suture removal, patient education, and various dermatologic conditions.
