Laser & Light Treatments
Facial & Leg Vein Treatment
At Goldsboro Skin Center, we utilize several different lasers and light sources to treat these vessels. The method of treatment is determined by the size, color, and location of the veins. We customize each treatment for every patient. The Vbeam and Gentle Yag lasers (The Iriderm diode laser, Nd:Yag laser and the Quantum SR light source) allow us to tailor the treatment to match the veins in need of eradication.
Vbeam® Pulsed-dye Laser Vein Treatment of Vascular Lesions
The FDA approval in 1986 of the pulsed dye laser utilizing yellow light (577-585 nanometers) allowed us to treat cutaneous vascular lesions. The Vbeam laser is a 595 pulsed dye laser and the Vbeam's versatility enables you to address a wide range of vascular lesions, including: periorbital wrinkles, facial veins, rosacea, leg veins, port wine stains, hemangiomas, scars, stretch marks, and warts. This laser system has been utilized for safe and effective removal of port-wine stain birthmarks with a low incidence of scarring and permanent pigmentary change. Infants and young children became appropriate candidates for this treatment. The effectiveness of the pulsed dye laser treatment of port-wine stains has been established at approximately 75-percent clearing after approximately three treatment sessions. The rate of clearing and the achievement of complete clearing are based on the location of the port-wine stain with the central portion of the face and the distal extremities responding more slowly than other locations. The pulsed dye laser has also been demonstrated to be effective in treatment of a sun damaged condition that occurs on the neck and chest area that gives the appearance of persistent redness. This condition is called Poikiloderma of Civatte. It has also been used for patients with persistent red noses, thickened scars, and rarely, warts. The use of this laser for cosmetic purposes has been limited by the postoperative bruising which lasts for five to ten days. Most conditions that this laser treats require multiple treatment sessions.

The Gentle Yag laser effectively treats vascular lesions and leg veins. It is the only laser of its kind patented and FDA cleared for leg vein removal and laser hair removal. The long wavelength of the Gentle Yag laser reaches deeper into the skin, making it ideal for treating leg veins. The laser contracts the leg veins, without bruising usually associated with other leg vein treatments.
The non-invasive laser treatment of leg veins continues to be a source of interest to physicians. Treatment options at this time include sclerotherapy, laser treatment, and intense pulsed light sources. Sclerotherapy has been the gold standard for treatment of leg veins. However, the Gentle Yag adds another dimension to our ability to treat extremely small veins that are too small for injections.
