CO2 Laser Resurfacing
CO2 laser resurfacing is used to erase wrinkles on the face as well as to tighten the sagging skin produced by the ravages of long-term sun exposure and natural aging. Dr. Jennings has been successfully performing laser resurfacing since 1995.
The laser emits a high-energy beam of light to vaporize wrinkles and skin imperfections. The light energy penetrates several cell layers at a time producing vaporization of the cells. Wrinkles are removed layer by layer somewhat analogous to peeling the layers of an onion. With such precise control of the depth of treatment it makes the procedure very safe and predictable. Lines and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes, on the cheeks, and stubborn "bleeding lipstick" lines around the lips can be successfully removed.
The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting utilizing numbing cream, local anesthesia and light sedation. The procedure takes 30-90 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Following the procedure, the skin is treated with cold packs and ointment while healing. It is normal to experience some facial swelling and mild drainage of clear fluid for the first several days. Mild itching may occur, but pain is rarely a problem and can be controlled with medication. Most patients heal in 8-14 days. Pinkness fades gradually over a few months, and can be covered with makeup. Scarring and change of coloring of the skin are always a risk in any skin resurfacing procedure, even laser, if the utmost care is not used. Sometimes the innate ability of the skin to heal is an unpredictable factor in the final results.

Microdermabrasion
What is Medical Microdermabrasion and how does it work?
Medical Microdermabrasion, also called Parisian Peel is a unique treatment from Europe developed to treat skin conditions. It is performed using a precision hand piece to direct a stream of fine aluminium oxide crystals and mild suction across the skin, exfoliating the outermost layer. Control of the flow of crystals can create a gentle abrasion of the skin or a deeper exfoliation where needed. Used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne, acne scars, uneven pigmentation, uneven skin tone and age spots, the procedure may be used in conjunction with chemical peels and/or topical formulations. Microdermabrasions are usually performed in a series of treatments, each taking approximately 30 minutes. The face is the most commonly treated site, followed by hands, arms and neckline. Microdermabrasion is a simple skin renewal technology, providing a conservative approach to rejuvenating the skin surface.
What conditions are most commonly treated with Medical Microdermabrasion?
Medical Microdermabrasion is used to treat the following conditions:
- Age Spots
- Dull, uneven skin tone
- Hyperpigmentation
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Rhytides (lip lines)
- Acne scarring
What can I expect after treatment?
Following the treatment, you may expect some transient redness which will disappear in a few hours. The skin will feel soft and silky and may peel slightly. If deeper microdermabrasion is performed on more stubborn lines, there may be transient swelling and redness which will resolve within hours to several days. Normally, there is no "down time" and activities can be resumed immediately. Care should be taken to protect the skin with sunscreen and mild cleansers and moisturizers. Products such as Retin-A should be discontinued for 1-2 days prior to treatment and waxing avoided for one week.
